Embodying Excellence: Epic at the 34th Annual ELSO Conference
Porter Adventist’s Epic Cardiovascular Services Team Receives ELSO Excellence Award
The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) held its 34th annual conference at the Hyatt Regency Seattle from September 28 to October 1, 2023. Epic Cardiovascular Services’s very own Paul Mueller, CES-A, was in attendance, representing Epic’s Porter Adventist perfusion team in receiving ELSO’s Center of Excellence Gold Award.
Pre-Conference and Conference Highlights
The conference opened with a dynamic pre-conference on “ECMO Management” and Physiology,” focusing on practical “How To” insights and in-depth physiological discussions, setting the stage for lively debates. The energy continued throughout the main event, showcasing the latest research and developments in respiratory failure treatment, ARDS induction, and the integration of artificial intelligence in ECMO.
Attendees actively engaged in discussions sparked by these cutting-edge topics, fostering a rich exchange of ideas. Additional focal points included the latest in ECPR, breakthroughs in device technology, and strategies for life post-ECMO.
Embodying Excellence in Life Support
For Epic, the true highlight of the conference was being part of the Porter Adventist team which received the Center of Excellence Gold Award. This award recognizes programs that embody Excellence in Life Support. When deliberating the possible recipients of the award, the organization looked for extraordinary achievement in three categories:
- Excellence in promoting ELSO’s vision, mission, and activities.
- Excellence in patient care by using the highest quality measures, processes, and structures based upon evidence.
- Excellence in training, education, collaboration, and communication supporting ELSO guidelines that contribute to a healing environment for families, patients, and staff.
Ultimately, it was Epic’s Paul Mueller and other representatives from the team at Porter Adventist who had the honor of receiving this award. Our Epic Cardiovascular team has put in countless hours to ensure the highest quality ECMO care is administered. Other individuals on our team who also earned this recognition include Dana Schiro, Megan Corlett, Jamie Donizio, Reid Roos, and Jill Sukovieff.
